The air-water heat pump is the most efficient and ecological systems, requiring the least consumption to heat your swimming pool water, due to the heat being transferred from the air to the water. The big advantage of heat pumps lies in the fact that they produce more energy than they consume. This means that for every kWh paid to the electric utility, three to five kWh of thermal energy are obtained to heat up the pool.
The heat pump is integrated with the pumping and filtering system. As cold water enters the heat pump, it absorbs energy from the air and increases its temperature. The water is then returned to the pool. By this procedure more than 10 m3 of water can be heated per hour, effectively increasing the overall pool temperature.
Will the pool be warm all year?
On the Costa Blanca this is perfectly possible since modern heat pumps can work at low temperatures (up to minus 25 degrees Celcius). Nevertheless, a pool cover is needed to avoid the loss of heat during the night and avoid energy waste.

Inverter vs. no inverter
When buying a swimming pool heat pump, the most important thing to think about is whether to buy an inverter heat pump or non-inverter heat pump. When a heat pump has an inverter, it will be more efficient, it will use less energy and it will be smarter. By being smarter, we mean that the pump can decide itself, whether it should run faster/harder, or slower/softer.
When a heat pump comes with the option to use a smartphone app, you will be able to turn the heat pump on or off from anywhere in the world. Often, it is also possible to view statistics about the system, such as electricity usage usage.
Horizontal vs. vertical air outlet
When choosing a pool heat pump, it is important to pick the right pump for the right place. There are horizontal and vertical outlets. When a heat pump is placed on a ”free location” with no walls or plants near the pump, a horizontal outlet is used. When the pump has to be placed on a location where the pump is near a wall or other object, a vertical outlet is used.
